What do you need to do to your lawn at the end of the year? Does it need one last cut? Should it be higher or lower than normal? Well our research all shows the same advice given by experts and it’s what we recommend to you.
CUT LOWER
The last cut of the year should be cut lower to essentially allow the grass to keep less of itself alive and healthy. The longer it is the more “energy” it needs to maintain itself. However, it is also important to not cut it too short, leaving it at a healthy in-between. Most experts agree between 2.5″ and 3″.
REMOVE LEAVES
Leaves can be beautiful during the fall but they can also prevent sunlight from reaching your grass and essentially choke it out if left on top of grass. It is recommended that you either mulch them up or remove them. We can help! Check out our leaves page or contact us directly at 865.730.0404
DETHATCH
Dethatching involves dragging the yard to remove dead grass and the like that has collected and is keeping new grass from growing.
AERATE
Aeration is important but not necessary to be done every year. However, every couple years you will want to have a core aeration done to put new life into your lawn.
FERTILIZE
Find the right fertilizer for you yard and fertilize to help strengthen it for the coming cold season. If you dethatched and/or aerated it will allow the fertilizer to get right down to the ground.
